Lollapalooza 2011 Lineup Rumors, Confirmations, Speculation

According to Chicago Tribune Music Insider and long-time Lolla scenester Greg Kot, folks can expect to see Foo Fighters, Eminem and Muse [confirmed again today 4/5/11 on Twitter] headlining in Grant Park come August. Also, he added that Best Coast, Girl Talk, Crystal Castles, Lykke Li will be there as well. As Lolla is a three-day festival featuring dualing headliners on opposite sides of the park, three more headlining acts will be included in addition to these rumored confirmations. Gonna need a lot more than those three to get me back up to Chicago for this year's festival (not to knock Eminem or Muse, both of which played great headlining shows at the Voodoo Experience in 2009 and 2010 respectively). Been dying to return since 2009 and I expect for the 20th Anniversary there will be (as usual), a few headlining acts that were around when the festival first got it's legs. Also, with both releasing their own albums and a collaboration this year, perhaps Kanye West is a possibility to also land on the bill this summer. The official, confirmed, non-speculatory lineup will be released in April.

Other bands rumored --
A Perfect Circle
Cee-Lo
Glitch Mob
Decemberists
Ra Ra Riot
Foster the People
Panda Bear
Fistful of Mercy
Justin Townes Earle
Oh Land (Confirmed)
Deftones
Delta Spirit (Clue - Long Beach band that plays Trashcans (and a song called "Trashcan")
Death From Above 1979
Best Coast
Kid Cudi
Lykke Li
Titus Andronicus
The Flaming Lips? (appeared at Lolla Chile - Highly unlikely)
Weezer
Cold Cave
Flogging Molly
The Kills
Lance Herbstrong
Rubik

If you have any ideas, speculation, wishes, feel free to share in the comments section.

  1. This all seems like a bit of a yaaawnfest to me. All these bands have been touring so much recently that they've become a bit over-exposed. Not to mention straight up crap and getting crapper (Muse).

Thankfully the rumours of Australian hard rockers 'Raise the Crazy' making their North American debut at Lolla are starting to firm. The Wrecking Ball is gonna knock you out!

  2. Eminem is a headliner there. That's enough said of how the lineup sucks so far, not to mention all the other overhyped boring bands listed so far.

I'm really hoping Kanye comes in since his last album

  3. Yeah cuz Kanye West isnt overhyped....pleeease...lolla has sucked since rage and tool last played...so soft now

  4. /\Agreed. If APC isn't showing up Lolla is gonna suck...again

  5. I went when Pear Jam was headlining. It was an amazing experience, and with this rumored lineup i don't know if i'm to excited. Eminem doesn't need to be there. He is already headlining Bonaroo. Muse isn't to exciting either. Foo Fighters wouldn't be bad to see, only if they play the old shit. I would love to see Kanye, his new album is pretty good.
I'm really hoping for the 20th anniversary they have some good groups. NOT EMINEM!

  6. From smaller acts, I've heard Rubik.

  7. Fleet Foxes will not be there they are headlining Pitchfork fest @ Union Park, Chicago in July

  8. This lineup doesn't look terrible. I got my early bird ticket and was really skeptical, but I've seen girl talk before and he kills it everytime, lykke li is sexy, kid Cudis awesome, bright eyes, the decemberists and all them are great as well. But can come some one help me out and tell me if there's any chance Odd Future is playing?? That would be wild and I'd be mad happy. Some either let me know on here or on Twitter ( @fuckallopez ). Thanks!

  9. @Al: Odd Future probably won't be playing since they're doing Pitchfork a month before. There's rarely any overlap between the two festivals (I'm not even sure if anyone's played both of them the same year).

  10. Damn. Good point, I didn't even think about that. Well, shit. Thanks for the heads up.

  11. Odd future will probably not be appearing, as one had already mentioned, they are playing Pitchfork. As far as I understand it, to play Lollapalooza there is a rule about not playing shows in Chicago for a month (or some designated amount of time) before it starts and Pitchfork is well within this time period. I believe that is how it works but cannot be 100% confident.

  12. flaming lips wont be there either, lolla makes bands sign contracts that they cant play shows 3 months before and after lolla, and 300 miles...

    ReplyDelete
  13. I've heard, however, that Lolla will waive that contract for an artist who asks for it and then really just mean it for like club or venue shows, not festivals. The contract also says something similar to "you cannot play within 150 miles of Chicago 6 months before, and 3 months after, Lollapalooza." but we all know that bands play Lolla after parties at local venues every year, sometimes even the same day that they played at Lolla. It might just be wishful thinking, but I think it would make sense for some P4K bands, I.e. TVOTR and OFWGKTA to play, considering they both just (or are about, in Tyler's case) released albums recently, and Lolla is def bigger than p4k. Who knows? I just really hope the lineup doesn't suck as much as it looks like it will.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Artists playing at P4K like TVOTR wouldn't come back to play Chicago a month later b/c of radius clause and fear of oversaturating the market. TVOTR would probably benefit slightly more from a Pitchfork headlining spot than a late-afternoon/evening spot at Lolla and I'd imagine the pay is comparable since P4K is becoming bigger and bigger every year.

  15. New Beastie Boys album coming out soon. I wouldn't be surprised to see them headline. The new single is much better than most of anything off the last couple albums.

  16. tool sucks!!! overrated!!! for you rock fans.. who else is there?! rock sucks now and has for 10+ years. they have to branch out.

  17. if DFA plays, my money will be well spent. nuff said

  18. As completely gay as sum of these bands r (My Morning Jacket? Are you fuckin serious?), it's always a good weekend cuz theres always a couple pleasant surprises - thats how I got into the Black Keys - & many others.

Unfortunately, that whiny, pussy shit that passes 4 "rock" in recent years is gonna b part of the mix. I'll listen 2 pretty much anythg ('cept country), but theres so much - I dont even know what 2 call it - SHIT tryin 2 pass itself off as sum kinda '60's "philosophical" music. Its just weakass pathetic attempt 2 create their "own sound". Its ALL BEEN DONE B4 - give it up!

I just hope the remaining 3 headliners make it worth the trip - & the $$$!

  19. oh yeah...& the sooner evryone stops kissin that racist dickhead Kanye's ass, the better! Fuck him - a complete fuckin imposter - just like Kid Rock!

  20. rusko said at his show in Chicago this weekend that he will be playing at lollapalooza this year

  21. Nobody has mentioned anything about Jane's playing. New album due in August, already released a 'sneak peak' (end of the lies). Isn't it a no-brainer that they will headline, or is it just wishful thinking on my part?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I kinda think that'd be pushing it considering Jane's headlined in '09. I could be wrong and obviously whatever Perry says goes...

    ReplyDelete
  23. The strokes possibly? anyone know? or maybe the White Stripes? or The Arctic Monkeys?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Strokes played last year, White Stripes have retired and Arctic Monkeys were there in '09 when they had a new record. Definitely not the first two and probably not AM either.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Crap, I don't know if I should buy tickets or not. Do you think it's worth it? I'm in highschool... but I have a job.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Arctic Monkeys For the Win!!!

  27. Lineup is out. See top post on page.

  28. But is it worth 215? Plus food and travel money?
