Austin City Limits 2011 Rumors, Speculation, Wishes, Etc.
The 10th Annual Austin City Limits Festival is Sept. 16-18 in Zilker Park. With Lolla celebrating it's 20th Anniversary a month earlier and Bonnaroo turning 10 in June, this year all the festivals are blowing out the candles and hopefully engaging in a game of one-upmanship with their respective lineups. The 20th Anniversary Lolla lineup doesn't exactly blow me away so let's hope C3 is just saving it for Austin this year, Last year's headliners included Phish, Muse and The Eagles. Please share your rumors, speculation and wishes in the comments section.

Lollapalooza 2011 Lineup Rumors, Confirmations, Speculation
According to Chicago Tribune Music Insider and long-time Lolla scenester Greg Kot, folks can expect to see Foo Fighters, Eminem and Muse [confirmed again today 4/5/11 on Twitter] headlining in Grant Park come August. Also, he added that Best Coast, Girl Talk, Crystal Castles, Lykke Li will be there as well. As Lolla is a three-day festival featuring dualing headliners on opposite sides of the park, three more headlining acts will be included in addition to these rumored confirmations. Gonna need a lot more than those three to get me back up to Chicago for this year's festival (not to knock Eminem or Muse, both of which played great headlining shows at the Voodoo Experience in 2009 and 2010 respectively). Been dying to return since 2009 and I expect for the 20th Anniversary there will be (as usual), a few headlining acts that were around when the festival first got it's legs. Also, with both releasing their own albums and a collaboration this year, perhaps Kanye West is a possibility to also land on the bill this summer. The official, confirmed, non-speculatory lineup will be released in April.
Other bands rumored --
A Perfect Circle
Cee-Lo
Glitch Mob
Decemberists
Ra Ra Riot
Foster the People
Panda Bear
Fistful of Mercy
Justin Townes Earle
Oh Land (Confirmed)
Deftones
Delta Spirit (Clue - Long Beach band that plays Trashcans (and a song called "Trashcan")
Death From Above 1979
Best Coast
Kid Cudi
Lykke Li
Titus Andronicus
Weezer
Cold Cave
Flogging Molly
The Kills
Lance Herbstrong

My Morning Jacket - Holdin' On To Black Metal - Rock and Roll's First Stab at 60's Thai Pop Soul
Click here to listen to the 2nd song to be released from the forthcoming 6th LP Circuital from My Morning Jacket. Got a feeling this one is gonna be a monster live.
Here's the tune that it reinterprets. Just further proof that no matter how much music you listen to, Yim Yames probably listens to more. Just when you think everything's been done in rock music, a new wormhole is opened. LET'S ROCK.
I like it even more now.
From SPIN
Ubon Pattana were an obscure Thai group that emerged in the late-'60s, and their music mixed the far-out adventurousness of American psych with traditional Thai instruments like the khaen and lyrics sung in their native language. James jokes that he first heard them in 1970 — he was born in 1978 — so allow the man a little narrative freedom as he talks about this long-forgotten band:
"It's 1970. I am in Thailand on a business trip. The plane got in late and after I check into the hotel I find my way into a little corner bar for a drink. As I sip my cocktail and slink down into my booth, the music overtakes me and I know I am in the presence of greatness: This band, Ubon Pattana, three or four kids sunk behind their instruments with big coats and sunglasses on, are just laying down the thickest groove, like they are deeply stoned or half asleep, lost in a highly functional trance.
"And this girl, the sign says her name is Angkana Khunchai...I can't understand what she is singing, but she is in some kind of real pain and she is just fucking laying it down for everybody, hunched over, holding all her weight up with the mic just wailing. And her sounds that I cannot understand turn into words I'd been thinking about anyway, tossing and turning hopes and fears like we all do, things I've been trying to figure out but just haven't been able to. And now I'm trying to process it all here in Thailand, to find a way to make it all make sense before I have to return home again. And I look up from my reverie and tears are rolling down her cheeks, out from under her sunglasses, and mine are falling onto my pink umbrella, rolling off into some drink I know ill never be able to finish."

Willie Nelson and Snoop Dogg (VIDEO) - Superman
A nice slow blues ramble with no rap and of course, (for any video involving Snoop and Willie) lots of marijuana.

My Morning Jacket - Octoplasm
On the heels of last Tuesday's release of the title track to the forthcoming My Morning Jacket album Circuital (Out 5/31 - ATO Records), MMJ released "Octoplasm", a Miles Davis-meets-Grateful Dead freeform jazzercise from way out in leftfield. Completely different from anything the band has released to this point and accompanied with a message revealing that there is plenty more unexpected weirdness to come from this Roll Call series.
Listen to Octoplasm:
“My Morning Jacket would like to welcome all those who join the new MMJ Roll Call fan club into their much talked about and highly controversial “Self-Hypnosis Series” as well. The Self-Hypnosis Series will begin an exploration into the core of each individual heart, mind, body, and soul that joins the Roll Call fan club.
Based on a desire to help each individual fan reach a state of emotional bliss, a new algorithm was recently developed at Removador HQ. It can sense listeners temperature and emotional climate at the time of listening-thru any listening device, be it speakers or headphones, and cater a listening experience truly unique for each listener.
MMJ will carefully handcraft and carve pieces of music that will provide a vehicle for the listener to enter a new gateway of self exploration and understanding based on their current state of mind at the time of each listen. The Self-Hypnosis Series will start with a piece entitled “Octoplasm” which will be available via download immediately upon joining Roll Call. New titles in the Self-Hypnosis series will appear randomly, or on a strict schedule and will be available only to Roll Call members. We hope you are to enjoy!”

Artist of the Month: Generationals
This post originally appears on Live Music Blog: NOLA - Facebook - Twitter
This month local indie rock duo the Generationals are the LMB NOLA Artist of the Month. With their new album Actor Caster out now on Park The Van Records (for starters, check "Yours Forever", "Greenleaf" (below) and "Please Be It"), a lengthy tour getting kicked off this week and a stop in New Orleans for the final day at Jazz Fest, the buzz is growing louder for these guys. The Generationals are New Orleans' response to internationally-renowned electro-infused indie pop bands like Peter Bjorn & John and MGMT. The indie rockers are in rare company around these parts as purveyors of radio-ready sunny afternoon pop tunes more catered towards the college radio dial and tastemaking outlets like Pitchfork, Stereogum and Paste than just about any other local act.
The band is currently out on two-month tour in support of the new record alongside Ra Ra Riot, Oh No Oh My and Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr at varying legs of the tour. Also, the Generationals are making an appearance at Jazz Fest on the festival's final day (May 8) on the Lagniappe Stage from 3:10-4:10. To download two of the band's new tracks, enter your e-mail address below. Check out the interview with Grant and Ted below where they discuss the genesis of the band name, their label Park the Van, influences and a memorable childhood trip to Jazz Fest.
Live Music Blog: NOLA - Generationals is a pretty stellar name, it carries a certain majesty and importance to it - how did you guys come up with the band name and please also answer the following: The Generationals are the _________ [Fill in the blank] of our generation.
Grant: Most epic appreciators of BBQ.
Ted: We were recording our first record Con Law in Washington D.C. over the Summer of 2008. It was the Summer before the presidential election and you would hear the word "generational" alot in the news coverage of the election, in the context of issues being split down generational lines. Grant just had the idea to pluralize it and I was like O.K. sure, lets be Generationals.
